I feel it destroyed the story a bit. It messed up with some things that shouldn't be messed with just to tie the story with the first game.

The characters were all really great though, the music is as good, if not better in some cases than the Okami soundtrack. The gameplay is alright, although missable collectibles are something I think is a bad design. If you're a fan of Okami, I'd say get it. But I personally have mixed feelings about it. The Okami feel is there, just not as good, I'd say.

Chibiterasu is adorable though. And there's a running gag about various characters giving him different nicknames. Chibi's reactions are hilarious. I have played through it many times and have loved every minute of it every time. Is it as good as Okami?

Probably not but its still a really good game.Edit: I should probably elaborate a bit.Cons:Due to hardware limitations the world is much smaller, the graphics are not as good, and there is a loading screen for each battle.Pros:The story. This one seems to be a bit polarizing, but I actually liked the story for Okamiden much more than I enjoyed the one for Okami (and that's saying something). The characters are more endearing, and the general story is more emotionally powerful than the original game.I hope this helps. A lot of fans don't like Okamiden compared to Okami. My personal opinion is that I love both games, but I have to give my favorite to Okami, mostly because the world is bigger, the story is longer, and the graphics are better. All of those reasons center around the fact that Okami has better hardware, therefore more room to expand than Okamiden does. But that's not to say that the graphics (for original DS standards) are actually quite stunning in Okamiden. Yes, its not as polished looking as Okami, but remember that the DS came out before the Wii, and only two years after the PS2, which was one of the best processing powers of its generation.

Okamiden

Its honestly quite unfair to compare the two games on the basis of graphics, hardware, and amount of content.Another reason that I think why many of Okami's fans seem to drawn away from Okamiden is because Okamiden was meant for a younger audience. That's the reason why Chibiterasu is a puppy and your partners are kids, so that the target audience can relate better. Plus puppies are cute factors, and who doesn't want to run around as a puppy?Another major concern is how the story in Okamiden seems to contradict various parts of Okami, but honestly, I don't really see it too much. Yes there's a bit of plot convenience character creation, but its not that big of a stretch.

The time skip between Okami and Okamiden seems to be a bit too small for the amount of change that's happened in the world of Nippon, but that's honestly a small argument in the grand scheme of things.Keep an open mind about it and don't expect it to be as absolutely mind-blowingly awesome like Okami is. It still is a bit mind-blowing, but not quite as much. I bet it will still tug at your heartstrings though.
